The headaches I didn’t know I had? Gone.
The anger I didn’t know I was holding? Released.
The self I couldn’t seem to find? Showing up again louder, clearer, and a lot less interested in performing.
I was learning to trust myself. To listen to my intuition. To live in alignment with who I truly was.
The ugly-cry kind. The “this-isn’t-working-and-I-don’t-know-what-to-do” kind. There was snot. There were tissues. There was the deeply disorienting realization that I either had to figure things out or fall apart completely.
I didn’t want to die. But I didn’t know what it meant to truly live.
So I went searching. For something deeper than “take a walk and drink water.” I tried talk therapy (helpful, but slow), bodywork (amazing, but incomplete), energy work (which I initially called “woo nonsense,” if I’m honest), and eventually, horses. Who, it turns out, are better at emotional regulation than most humans I know.
I’ve been immersed in healing work for over 25 years. Most of my clients are high performers, creatives, or deep seekers. People who sense there’s more, even if they can’t name it yet. I’m a certified practitioner of a variety of powerful modalities including Gestalt, Equine Gestalt, and EnergyTouch therapy, and a lifelong learner of how people heal. But more importantly, I’ve lived this work. I’ve done the deep dives and come out on the other side. And now I walk beside my clients, as someone who’s been there, to help them do the same.
Because healing isn’t always clinical and it’s not a solo project. It’s relational. I mean…you can’t read the label from inside the jar, right? The truth is you can’t do it alone. The good news is you don’t have to.
The healing herd at Unbroken & Blooming aren’t trained to be therapy animals. They simply show up as themselves, attuned to the energy in the space and connected in ways that defy logic. Their presence often accelerates the healing process. For many clients, the horses are the reason they came, and the transformation is the reason they come back.
Each one of our horses brings a unique gift to the work. (If you’re not “a horse person,” that’s okay.) It’s not horseback riding. It’s connection, reflection, and healing in ways that feel both powerful and profoundly natural.
American Paint Horse. River grounds his clients so they can feel their true emotions without panicking. He’s especially effective with anxious clients, helping them find and resolve the root experience. With his “magic eye,” he truly sees them.
Paint Cross. Blue, affectionately known as Bluebert, is still finding his footing as a coach. He responds with deep empathy to clients who don’t yet know their truth. He works up close and at a distance to shift chakras and support physical healing.
Foundation Quarter Horse. Apollo shows his clients their walls and won’t come close until those walls come down. He asks for honesty and openness, and tells his clients when they’re hiding. Still a novice coach, he’s learning to trust himself and growing into a spectacular up-close energy worker.
American Paint Horse. Callie wants her clients to be in the truth of their emotions. She’s rock solid for clients processing anger, expertly bringing them into their bodies and holding space while they feel it. She’s also a gifted energy worker with chakras and other systems.
Half Arabian, Quarter Horse, and German Riding Pony cross. Ellie rewards her clients with her big heart when they speak their truth, and won’t stick around for fiction. She’s a talented energy worker and developing pantomime, often acting out her client’s truth. She’s an amazing Gestaltist who truly loves her job.
Because if you’re not wearing close-toed shoes and getting a little dirty, is it really therapy? Unbroken & Blooming is situated on 30 quiet acres in Rockford, Michigan surrounded by trees, open sky, farm fields, and the sounds of birds and horses.
When I first stepped onto this property, I felt it in my chest. A deep exhale. A sense of, “WOW. This place is special”
Turns out, a lot of people feel it too. Like a breath they didn’t know they were holding, finally letting go. This land has a calming energy. The horses settle. People soften. And something sacred starts to unfold, especially when we let the barn, the breeze, and the stillness of the field become part of the process.
Sessions can happen here in person, or virtually from wherever you are. But if you come to the farm, be prepared: It’s not just beautiful. It’s powerful.
But this work did so much more for me than traditional talk therapy. Sue helped me understand how my emotions were showing up in my body. With her support, I’ve uncovered things about myself I’d never even thought to consider. She met me where I was, and gave me the push I needed to grow.
